UNS S46500 / Chronifer 465 KL, as per ASTM F 899, martensitic precipitation age hardenable Stainless Steel for Medical Instruments bars
Custom 465 is available in stock as bars / rods. Chronifer 465 KL, steel for medical instruments, is a product of Carpenter steel under the protected brand name Custom 465.
The norm ASTM F-899 has already added this high tech steel under UNS S46500.
Properties of Custom 465 / UNS S46500
With the Custom 465 the very good properties of Custom 455 were further improved. The premium melted martensitic, age-hardenable steel, has a capablility of ultimate tensile strength of over 1700 MPa (250ksi) in the overaged condition H 900.
His toughness is significantly higher than that of other precipitation-steels and its notch tensile strength is low. Custom 465 has a good combination of fracture strength and resistance to pitting corrosion.
Its corrosion resistance is nearly like that of an austenitic steel (18-8 steel, AISI 304, 1.4301).
Applications of Custom 465 / 1.4614
This alloy is designed for applications in the field of excellent notch tensile strength and fracture toughness for medical instruments.
Custom 465 meets the high demands on materials, that are required in the medical technology.
It is used for the production of endoscopic instruments for surgery and for dental instruments, needles, needle wires and other instruments with small diameters.
